What climb made you proud this year?

Accomplished part one of my two birthday goal climbs. Far away from the others in here, but I am nonetheless proud to have climbed the first route put up on our local cliffs, "Standard route" in Car body canyon. BITD, this very easy chimney was the warmup for the local guys, and my guess is they did it solo.

Me, top rope. But, totally comfortable, easy, nowhere near any falls, which made me pretty pleased, as I wasn't even confident about walking, let alone climbing, at that point.

I also met the FA, and got in a nice little hike with him, including running commentary of the history on another local climbing area where we were hiking. That's better (the people side of it) to me than the rock side!

Part two, still to come! That one will be post 60.

Best, Helen

I was also able to do one longish alpine day and did my 35th ascent of the Spearhead in RMNP.
Nothing like this thread and the likes of the post by Jeff G. that can help with staying hopeful for the next year. Was not happy to be looking at min 2 months recovery after yesterday's surgery to repair rotator cuff injury and slap tear and to remove loose cartilage fragment from my right shoulder joint. But reading all this took me to a totally different place and just being more exited about returning to climbing by spring. I am going for the most lame proud moments on MP, nevertheless totally exciting firsts for me:

1. First time 14er attempts, Quandary and mt. Evans from Summit lake, both aborted due to weather and late starts.
2. First sport lead, followed by many others on increasingly harder grades
3 . Taking a first timer out climbing
4. Last but not least, being asked by a recovery room nurse/gym climber while in the hospital recovery room yesterday to go climbing with me when I recover

Super inspiring thread! It's so fun to see what everyone is proud of this year.

For me, this route: Full Facial aka Only the Lonely 5.13+ was the peak of the year.
My buddy Cody and I worked on it for the past two years and he managed to send this past February. We bolted the route on lead over the course of several days. While I have yet to send the crux pitch, I'll never forget the days we spent up there working on this thing!

Very humbly: Onsighting BM (5.8) at the gunks, leading Nosedive (5.10) at the gunks. I struggle as a leader, so pushing through my lack of "leadership" at harder grades is always a proud moment for me.

Finally went for Satan's Ridge this fall. It's been something I've been interested in checking out since I read about it 2 or 3 years ago.

It was scarier, looser, longer and way more amazing than I could have imagined. Perfect weather, incredible scenery, and engaging survival scrambling made for a day I won't be forgetting.

Satan's Ridge solo, September 2016. ~18 hours C2C, 5.5 hours on the ridge.

First trip up the Incredible Hulk, via the Red Dihedral. My first real alpine climb, and a lesson in... the fact that 10a is a lot harder in the alpine.

Adam Ondra on the Dawn Wall. Very hard climbing on a relatively new medium for him done during sketchy weather.

So great to see everyone's accomplishments! Happy New Year!

For me, it was a pretty healthy list of firsts. I am close to 50 and only climb outdoors about 3 days per month, but I am still improving as a climber in so many ways. This sense of getting better is super important to me. In no particular order:

- First time sending two 12's in Europe during a week long trip (at two crags out of three visited).
- First time sending 7b (12b) in France (Charles de Goal at Volx, old school grading).
- First time bolting a route/first FA (12a). Named it Time, Heat, and Pressure to reflect my personal constraints, the added challenge of a summer redpoint in the Northeast, and the urgency to send before someone else might get the FA (it happened on the adjacent route).
- First time redpointing two 12's at the Gunks in one season, one of which with an injured finger
- First time redpointing 12b at the Gunks.

This is a pretty modest list of ticks (one of my partners sent a 7c+ second try during the trip to France, among others). But for me, I am super stoked that I got so much done and it will be tough to beat in 2017.
