Calling OHIO Climbers! In need of Springfield climbing Pics!

So I recently got on the Ohio Climbers Coalition Board of Directors and we are looking at making a flier to promote the Springfield Gorge as access is going to be opened to this area by September. We are coming across a few issues at this point though... the first being, we don't actually have any photos of anyone climbing at the Springfield Gorge! So if you have any good photos and can send them to me that would be great! The other big issue is that we currently don't have enough volunteers at this point. As Ohio climbers, we know that there is some great potential within our state but not much that is open to legal climbing. Springfield Gorge is the first step to proving that climbing can work in Ohio! So if you know anyone who would want to show up and volunteer and support the climbing in this area, let me know and I will get all of the information needed to them. This is an opportunity to create something great for Ohio!

I'm not familiar with the area, but it could be worth a day or weekend & snagging some photos. Maybe toss this up in the Midwest forum.

Given that there is overlap between gym climbers and outdoor climbers, I'd post notices around the local gyms.

There might be people who have what you need and want to be involved.

This is interesting. What kind of rock, cliff size, number of routes, climbing type are we talking about? Are there restrictions for access like Cleveland parks impose (huge amount of liability insurance and permits or lose your gear) or can you just go climb like a normal outdoors experience?

Gunks Jesse: The rock here is bullet hard limestone ranging in height down the two parallel cliff lines of about 35-50 feet. These cliff lines are very long with tons of climbing to be had. Bolting and re-bolting of routes is poised to happen this spring with help from the Access fund and the AAC. This is all being overseen by the OCC. Routes there are going to range from TR, Sport, and Trad. There are going to be quite a few F.A.'s to have there.

Currently the park is not open and is still illegal. We ask that people respect that so as to not hinder the progress of this project. We are having an event in May which will be a stewardship event to clean up and establish trails on a Saturday followed by the opening of the park on Sunday. We will be having a party on Saturday night at the campground with local blue grass bands, beer, and giveaways from our sponsors. This will be our own Ohio Rendezvous event.

As of right now there will not be restrictions imposed as to having to fill out forms to climb there.

I thought we weren't supposed to climb at Springfield until the event this spring? You may have more luck posting to the Ohio Climber facebook page or the Springfield Gorge event on facebook.

Send me a PM, I know a few climbers here in Cinci that might be willing to make the hour drive up to Dayton for a survey. Might be a good new years day activity, especially if there are some hard limestone boulders. We'll need some lat/ longs though.

Reminder: As of right now it is still illegal to climb at this location. We are looking for pictures from people who have climbed at this area in the past.

Sorry I misinterpreted what you meant. Its going to be hard to find photos of people climbing, grandfathered into the official definition of 'legal'. You might have better luck searching climbing groups on facebook for a Dayton climbing group or hitting up Urban Krag climbing gym.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
