Jewell Lake ice in RMNP still thin and narrow. Does'nt look like it will take a stubby until about halfway up. Wear snowshoes, you'll still sink up to your thighs even with them. Could not see All Mixed Up through all the blowing snow.

Sat, Dec 10, Moffat Tunnel ice: main flow on north-facing side is in but thin. Running water on the left side of the righthand pillar, and plastic ice on the right side of it. Left side of the flow is a thin curtain (someone led it, but I didn't want to) with bare rock at the top. The pillars are not there yet-- lots of ropes dangling to grow them, but little ice on the ropes yet. The two bolted mixed lines on the left are completely dry. South-facing smears on the other side of the valley are not there at all.

Anyone climb ice in coal creek canyon. I could have sworn I saw a really nice ice coming down on the south side one early last year after a big snowfall, but it was by houses and I did not know the access situation. On top of that it was snowy, I was driving, and I did not get a good look at it. I saw what was listed on MP and it looked way better than any of that. It is low in the canyon and I have always looked for it again and basically nothing is ever there. Anybody done anything over there?

The park opens this Saturday, December 17th.

Lots of private property up that way... could be on railroad land.

Anyone climb "The Road" on Mount Evans this year? How about Alexander's Chimney (RMNP)?

I've done Alexander's twice this season, most recently about two weeks ago. No ice on first pitch. Second was thin but fun. Third was average. Fourth was decidedly thin. Fifth pitch was dry but it always is. Still a superfun day.

Anybody have insight on Clear Creek yet?

I went to play around on Mickey's this past Saturday. 2nd pitch looked ok and was climbable and the first was barely in and needed a little more time to form up. Plenty of people have been hacking away at Coors Lite. It's in but I have definitely seen it in better shape.

Front range ice climbing at it's finest. Why let it grow?

Stair stepping and crowds

Basically all there is for so called "ice climbing" on the front range

Ice cragging/top rope beat the ice to death not what I consider "ice climbing"

If you have to walk around to set up a top rope well is that really ice climbing or just top roping in another medium ?

Can we please keep the moaning and groaning about the state of Front Range ice climbing out of this thread? I honestly don't disagree with you Jim, but this just isn't the place for that discussion. There has been a multitude of threads bemoaning the state of Front Range ice climbing, and I'm sure you could search for one and bump it up to have this conversation. But this is a conditions thread. Let's keep it as such.
