My gf is heading out of town for a few weeks and I'm looking to get out the weekend of the 18th. I'd love to get on a moderate alpine route.. I'd be willing to possibly carry skis up and ski down but that's not mandatory.. not looking for a terribly long slog of an approach.. Something like the cristo couloir except less likely to kill me in an avalanche this time of year..

Is this something I should just put on hold till spring? Also accepting partner offers.. I don't have an avy beacon but I have used then and been trained in it so I'd be prepared to rent some if I could find it..

Let me hear your best route suggestions..

Read the avalanche forecast at avalanche.state.co.us. You will see that many high elevation slopes holding snow have significant avalanche problems right now. Late spring tends to be more predictable but has its own set of snow stability concerns. Take the time to get educated and get the avalanche safety gear before launching into missions in avalanche terrain. The lines will always be there.

Like I said I know how to use avy gear.. I've used it before and have twken courses in it operation... I just don't own a beacon... but I would rent one if I could... anyway maybe i'll just go dick around Berthoud pass.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
