I feel like there is some deep social commentary going on here in these last few pages. Or irony. Or both. Or neither??

It's as if an MP thread has only so much civility available and it runs out at around page 7 or 8. Such acrimony. I'm not quite sure who's being/been insulted, or if insult was even meant, in some cases.

Hey, would you like to quit talking shit and share a good campfire story on this thread

maybe one about southern belle?

WE all spend too much time here and not enough time out climbing. I believe if we did more "outside" work/play we would be more sensitive and accommodating to all points of view.

That's a request from you two times now. It's more of a novel now than a story. Full religious experience. When you're sticking up for yourself I'd hardly call it talking shit..

And this crowd could care less about a grade V 13a X story

Testosterone is a valid justification for being an asshole (especially toward women).
Not my words you made that up to justify your narrow way of thinking.

I understand that you're standing up for yourself, but you're still perpetuating negativity, which isn't what MP is about. Campfire stories, on the hand, are part of what MP is about, and inspire people to get off their asses and go climbing. Some of these folks don't really care about your stories but a whole bunch of people on the other thread and probably some folks on this thread would love to hear more climbing stories.

I don't know about the others, but I find stories about those kind of routes both awe-inspiring and terrifying.

Very cool. When you come climb the new routes we have been putting up, you can certainly vote on the grade and how good the bolt placements are. It takes a few dozen ascents I think to really get a full picture of that. That's one of the best uses of the route database here. The other day four of us couldn't decide upon the grade, so we just averaged it.

I'm over here with the last name Stich as my handle, Hank, not that Buff Johnson one you addressed. You were a lot nicer when you did drink...I guess? You are very right that I never hung out with your crew and didn't care to. Tarbuster and I will have a good laugh about your little lashing out here I suppose if I remember to mention it. Really, just calm down with all of the fat shaming. It tickles too much!

I hope this thread doesn't get edited later. It's gold.

Some is, other parts are just a sad recap of an ego trip.

So this is a first for me and really bizarre.

In all my years online or offline I have never had a compliment (depricating and sarcastic but compliment just the same) get taken so far from it's intent.

Hank, to hopefully be clear and hopefully not sound like I'm kissing your ass too much.

I've always considered you a friend. You absolutely lit up the beer nights, you've got a warm, direct, and boisterous personality that I enjoyed. To be fair, I can't comment as to what was in your glass. It was definitely beer in mine. We had fun the times we climbed, but I can't think of an occasion where either pulled particularly hard together, god we enjoyed talking shit. I never had close to the nerve you had on lead and whenever I started feeling a little too cocky, your stories helped keep me grounded.

I hope you're well Hank. Even after today, if someone asked me to vouch for your character I still would.

If you want to talk, get a hold of me. I'd love to catch up. It makes me a little sad that it's been something like 8 years since I've seen you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go clean the shit off my nose.

Nice.

This deserves to be quoted as an example for maintaining civility.

There is forum software that allows you to ignore users, but the way it works, you only don't see posts directly made by that person. If, however, someone quotes an ignored user in a post, you will still see that post.

So in other words, the "Ignore User" function doesn't really work.

Don't worry, H. Hank is a big boy. And honestly, we all love him. He's a hoot. Seriously.

ALLRIGHT! I could have mistaken some weird(you thought it was obvious), attempts at humour that went over my head. I've been getting too many good emails that can only suggest that I mistook some humorous jibes and got too crazy. I also admit I'm the toughest most badass overly sensetive weirdo that might exist.

I apologize for all my turdy comments, I'll truly hit the pause button before pooping myself and responding so quickly all cranky pants like. Except for T Roper and Tim Lutz, you two are actually asshats. See y'all, thanks for the clarification, my ability was lacking on that front.

Edit- the anonymous accounts thing has made the confusion regarding what's "dry humour" or not much more difficult.

The fact that H & H are now BFF's means that all is right in the cosmos, yay.
Flagging and bragging seems odd to me, but why wouldn't you flag an admin's posts that were obviously off-sides?
WTF?

There are ways to stick up for yourself without talking shit, ad hominem attacks, vulgar comments about weight or sexuality, etc...

Whether intentional or not you've far crossed the line of sticking up for yourself.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
