It seems that Seth just described a minimal modification required to make this forum a "safer place".
If this feature is implemented, each member can work as an admin/moderator for herself, thus decreasing workload for REI moderators.

We can let others set standards, or we can offer ideas ourselves. First of all, let's end this denigration of all things weak by declaring them female. Vaginas are actually very, very tough you manly men. Stop calling each other pussies and lay off the faggot thing while you are at it. I think that is rarely used, but it pops up from time to time. People who are weak are called weaklings, wimps, babies, pansies, and other non-gender based words. But you can imply all of these insults with sneaky snarky verse, so work more on that when you need to.
I really admire this approach, calling for self-reflection and adjusting our own behavior when/if needed.

I also love your support of not equating weakness with female (or female parts). However, I would like to suggest one difference - possibly a radical one for some - when you feel the urge to call someone a "pussy", maybe instead of searching for a non-gender based synonym, instead maybe just.... don't?

Along these lines if you change the word "moderate" to "personalize" or"customize" it sounds better. Since each person would basically have his/her own MP experience, you could call it iMountainProject.

Can we at least all agree that there are certain times when a hostile tone is warranted, like the "Hey can you go to gofundme and donate to my vacation so i can buy food" threads?

I just hope I made the list for those on double-secret probation

Unless y'all been banned multiple times, no, you are not on the list.

And I would love to see all the dudes willing to pay 10 bucks for a guide with enough time and motivation to actually write that guide. Until then, I will begin subversion in the route data bases. Best idea to come out of this thread. Y'all ready to begin the great downgrade? This could be fun.

That's what I say essentially at the end. Instead of insults, use flowery, snarky verse to dazzle your opponent.

Buff, this one's for you:

Uhh... is that why they're dishing out 6 figures a year to the Access Fund and $20k plus to the BCC, just locally here alone?
Hmmm...
I've had my beefs with REI over the years, but not lately. They've actually been showing up well for climbers for a couple years now, and seem to be quite serious about it, from what I can tell. I've sat down with a few of them, and if they were just saying it, I'd be skeptical. But see here: they have been writing the checks.
Full disclosure: I'm not on the board of the BCC anymore, so I'm not beholden to anything, but I'll still point it out when someone that's been paying for your trails to be rebuilt, bolts to be replaced, and community events and clean-ups to be held get unfairly maligned as being takers.

Some brutal accidents, but we actually don't jump a whole lot. Especially with wingsuiting, that shit's all over in Europe so you have to factor 'a lot of time in Europe' if you want to wingsuit. There are places in the US but it's usually super illegal. We're sort of over the jail and hospital thing. I could fairly easily climb any 13a/b on the Front Range, but we don't climb all that much either. It's almost all Pack Burro Racing, the suffering is incomparable, and we dig that. Cheers Mark, thanks for tending towards the thought that I'm probably a good guy, I am and I really do appreciate it.
Hank, it's time to revisit your climbing roots. Tell us a story about that one time on the South face of Half Dome.

P.S., I tend to prefer MP over the taco, but one thing that I saw on the taco that I'd like to see more of here is the campfire discussions and stories. Nothing really gets you stoked for climbing like a good campfire story, and I think most of us could use a good story right about now.

If you post something offensive, there will be consequences (ridiculous whining about supposed "thought control" notwithstanding). Welcome to the real world. JL
Admin using an alias launching veiled personal attacks in a thread about "Forum Tone" and accusing someone of whining while defending microaggressions. Will using the phrase "unaware of irony" get my post deleted as well?

Not for nothing, but the socks that Hank sports around Eldo are just a fashion nightmarish disaster...ugh, dreadful.

A lot of the bullshit would go away if you made people register their real names like Facebook does.

I'm digging the new Mountain Project. Great Online Deals got cleaned up last night and I didn't even have to press the flag button. I just talked some sh:t and boom, gone.

I literally lol'd at this guy. Tim (Donnie) YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT. Hankster has climbed routes 95% of the others on here can't and won't ever do. Go back to the hind tit son.

Bottom line is that MP is not a publicaly owned site, it's in the owners right to moderate the context however they feel. How well with that sit with users, I'm not sure, but if you don't like it, well this isn't the only forum on the web. I agree with previous post that moderation kills the debate and makes the forum bland and not interesting. To much PC going around these days.

Didn't say no trolling. But if you're going to talk shit you better be prepared to back it up out in the world.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
