i bought this. it seems to be doing the job. i put my whole weight on it and jumped on the rope a bit and it seems to hold. i'll test it outside this weekend and see how it handles in real life and maybe with a simulated fall. that being said i'll probably just use this for hauling things or other random stuff.

I usually carry the tiny victorinox classic when i actually remember to bring a knife with me into the mountains, but if you prefer a single blade that's a little more burly, this CRKT thing looks like it's a pretty good item, and designed to be worn around the neck. I dunno. At $20, it's probably worth checking out.

I much prefer this knife to the Trango Piranha. Lighter, longer cutting edge, and the serrations of the teeth cut better. Toss one into the zipper of your Tufa Houdini chalkbag along with that Bic min-lighter and a square of paper towel (doubles as Toilet paper) and you are having a cushy nice fire when you get benighted (shaving sticks with the knife) instead of freezing to death.

JasonSH was referring to trekkinn.com, and I can confirm what he says here. When I saw this post I went to the site and found some great prices on stoppers and slings. I didn't need the items right away, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered around $100 worth of gear. I just went with standard shipping, probably the cheapest option.
