Blue totem or yellow totems are great. But their whole range is good.

I presume you do mean Totem Cams and not Basic Cams?

If you climb in a area that takes a certain size alot of the time, try and get a similar size . You can't go wrong with any of them. Superior protection!

So I decided to go totem basics for my smaller cams and I love them. I also plan on getting the bigger Totems to compliment my BD C4s when I start to need doubles. My Basics have only been climbed on a hand full of times by my friends and I, but they have been amazing so far. All held really well, even with a few questionable placements.

There isn't a best size cam. There is a best size cam for the route you want to climb.

Do you have any cams? If you do then get a size that you use a lot of the time. If you don't have cams (and I'm guessing you don't otherwise you would realize that this is an odd question) then go climb some trad lines with people and get a feel for the sizes you need and THEN start buying cams.

I like the green. Matches .75 BD range, which is really tight and insecure hands for me, but not small enough to thumb stack. If it gets cruxy in the alpine the totem makes a great handhold.

Blue and yellow. Maybe blue first, but why don't you just sell some plasma and buy both :P

Green, by far. It fills in gaps in the C4 range really well and I find I place it more than any of the others. Blue is also nice.

You cant sell blood in the uk all blood is donated because we have the NHS. I'm not buying them any way, i am teaching somebody the ropes and taking them outside (they were a exclusively indoor boulderer) and they are offering to buy me a cam for the work.

You can't sell blood in the States either, but somehow "blood components" are okay. I'd say the blue totem most frequently gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when nothing else will work well. It's also cool to put one next to someone else's yellow Mastercam that has walked too deep to ever come out and know that it'll be fine. I've never seen a fixed totem.

Not the orange one. I got one to replace my lost #2 C4 and it seems a bit too floppy, similar to the old green or black mastercam. The only other totem I have is the green and I really love it. It just inspires confidence and feels bomber. So I'd say get which ever size matches the pieces you use most often.

The one that fits in your stink pocket?

I ended up buying a the yellow and the blue but it's making me wonder as to why i would need C4s or Dragon cams when i can just buy totem, is there any reason that people use totems as a supplementary cam rather than their only cams? Are totems relatively fragile? Is it the price? Is it that everyone is all ways told for their cams to go out and buy some camalots? I cant really see much of a reason to go buy anything else.

the black , blue, yellow totems are amazing for their size range. purple and green are nice. Red I'd rather have a Camalot.

It's the price. Green and below they are the best that I have ever used. Just spent today climbing on flared granite cracks with a double rack of totems and was happy to have them. In the UK the price is probably more in line with what you'd pay for camalots.

yeah in the UK i'm only paying around £6 more for a totem, and the versatility definitely seems worth the £6

It's nice to have variety. If I'm only bringing singles in the finger size, I bring my totems.

I have a double set of Totems, they are my front line cam and I supplement my totems with Camelot's.

Go with another brand for overlap in sizes. I've had placements where a yellow totem couldn't quite go, blue was way over cammed. .4 x4 fit perfect.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
