Senior moment, left gear on Variety Delight Saturday Oct 8th

My application for an AARP membership is in process, but following my royal screw-up on Saturday, I'm sure I'll be accepted with no hesitation.

My wife and I hiked up to The Egg on Saturday early afternoon, and I led Variety Delight. My wife's ankle has been recovering from a very bad sprain several weeks ago, and we realized on the hike up that we had picked the wrong crag to climb at. But by then we were at the base anyway, so....

So I led it; no problem, fun climb. But once my wife started up, it wasn't going so well; her ankle really hurt. She decided to bail and be lowered, and I pulled the lead rope through the gear so I could pull up a second rope and set up a long rappel past some of the approach. I think we were both upset that her ankle wasn't doing as well as we would like, but for whatever reason, we both spaced out the remaining gear on the route, leaving two BD X4 cams behind, a couple of nuts, and some shoulder length slings and biners as well.

I can't believe I did this, and am really bummed that something so simple slipped our attention as we "retreated" off this climb. When I realized what had happened (not until Monday afternoon, ugh) we raced back over to The Egg, hiked back up, and I even reclimbed the route, just to be absolutely sure our gear wasn't there.

I don't have any compelling story about taking a 40 foot tumble down the face, or being stormed off by hail and lightning, but I am hoping that whoever found our gear would return it. We would be very grateful, and a six pack of good beer would be a small token of our appreciation.

Hey Woozy, bummer man. Before long it sounds as though yer gonna need to be short roped.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
