Description Suggest change

One of the three "new" countries created after the breakup of the Soviet Union in the Caucasus, Azerbaijan is relatively unknown in the West. While most news tends to focus on the ongoing hostilities with Armenia or oil, Azerbaijan boasts plenty of mountains and rock that are just waiting to be explored.

Please note you may have problems at the border if there is evidence of a visit to Armenia in your passport. If you have a visa from visiting Nagorno-Karabagh, you will almost certainly be rejected. Azerbaijan is a dictatorship and has an unresolved and sporadically ongoing war with Armenia. It is best to avoid politics of any kind and stick to climbing!

Getting There Suggest change

Baku has plenty international flights with great connections from Istanbul and Moscow. Alternatively if in the region, you can take the overnight train from Tblisi, Georgia to Baku or any of the regular bus services between the two.
