From my understanding, the parking lot will be for approximately 40 cars. This will be open parking for anyone wishing to hike or climb in the area. The land will be transferred to the state of Tennessee this fall.

Thanks, I'm cautiously optimistic.

. . . waiting patiently for you-know-who to show up and claim Denny Cove FAs/slag on Watford/complain about Laurel Knob . . .

Bobby and grog,
If you don't feel like the SCC aligns with your interests and values, you could always start your own climbing nonprofit and work on access issues that better represent your concerns. As a former board member on a climbing nonprofit, I should warn you that it's a lot of work...

Wungiz, I have too many flaws to take on such a task. I'm grateful for the hard work the SCC has done in the past. Simply put, my interests don't lie in the Chattanooga area. I do believe the SCC is doing great work for the Chattanooga area at this current time, no doubt there. I apologize for being antagonistic in my earlier posts.

I wish you had been waiting patiently at that meeting in Huntsville.... or the one at your gym... or the one in Chattanooga...

But, hey, how about that Tallulah access....?....(eyeroll).

Volunteering with other friends from Atlanta this weekend to help build out the trails! Psyched about it!

They sent out a select guide to Denny Cove to the volunteers. It's made by Rockery Press (Chattrad, Chatt Steel, Little River, Stone Fort) and well done.

If there is already a guidebook made for this climbing area why isn't there a MP page for it?

Will post some pictures from the weekend.

Kalin, That's awesome y'all are going up there to volunteer this weekend - I hope you enjoy it!

As far as the MP page goes, I think it is being held off until the gates are officially open since right now access is limited to Denny Days.

No...I don't. I don't think it's funny that the SCC minions like to conjure Shannon every time they feel some modicum of dissent. I think it shows lack of imagination... Certainly a lack of respect for a style all too distant to the helmeted sport climber of 2016.

But, whatever....I am happy about Denny Cove. I applaud the effort on behalf of the SCC and their minions. It'll hopefully reduce pressure from Atlantians, Chattanoogans, Birminghamians, and Stone-Summiters on Little River Canyon, Sandrock, Foster's, and other places near and dear to the hearts of the gym-to-crag sort. In theory, maybe even the TWall will be less crowded...

JL/Saxfiend had his opportunity to raise his voice at Shannon, in his own backyard, last year. Sadly, his anger/malcontent/trash-talking only manifests at a distance.

As Ben is fully aware, I've made repeated efforts to contact Stegg for accurate information on areas/routes/etc., and have gotten no response whatsoever (unless you count the personal attacks he makes on this and other websites). But he's more than happy to talk about events from 10+ years ago at Laurel Knob that nobody else gives a shit about (except maybe his shrinking pool of fanboys) . . .

Are there still volunteer days going on for this?

Also, after reading through this thread I've gotta ask a question. I've always supported the SCC without really thinking about it but one post on here makes me question their intent:

"Once the cove gets transferred to the South Cumberland State Park (the same organization that oversees Foster Falls) then it will be officially open to the public."

Hmm... So the intent is to "transfer" climbing sites to the state? One of the big draws for me moving to Chattanooga was Foster Falls. Because it was FREE. And had camping right above the cliffs. Since being transferred to the man it now costs ~$15 just to camp ( some ridiculous 7 or 8 dollar charge for using their website plus the $8 camp fee, I hardly ever get there in time to pay anybody in person so have to go on my phone and pay extra ). It's a real bummer. And where are those fees going? Do they get back to the SCC or is the SCC really just funding the state system? I love to support state parks and protected lands but I have some serious reservations about that when this is strong republican state, and those republicans want to privatize the entire outdoor sphere for profit. It's a bit alarming to be honest. But I still want to help out and hope for the best.

I believe they are still doing the volunteer days...at least from what I saw pop up on facebook. That 8 dollar online fee sounds like some classic BS...but 15 dollars for camping is pretty standard. Not too many free established sites these days, unfortunately. I don't have any inside info, but I know that certain land trusts helped with the purchase of Denny Cove. Hopefully, that will mean this land will remain protected despite any potential future privatization plans. Looks like no one's interested anyways (as of last December)...

On the bright side, it could be a lot worse. If it were a strong Democrat state you'd have to pay to park your car too.

Eh, California is pretty much a different planet altogether. Not trying to get into politics here, just that privatization of parks is more of a republican idea and wherever I have experienced privatization (most recently in Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Michigan ) prices for camping have gone from the $5-10 per night range to $18-25 per night, for the same exact grounds with no improvements. It's not what I want to see here in Tennessee.

I've got the land for a campground in N. Hamilton Co., just not a lot of dough. The improvements I've made thus far have pretty much bled me dry of savings. It's pretty remote, but I suppose the trade off would be peace, quiet, safety sans Twall breakins. Unfortunately, Hamco has a lot of hoops to jump through.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
