I am hoping to do some winter camping near LCC in December and I am from Alaska and not opposed to pitching a tent somewhere quiet. Hoping to do some skiing and climbing. Does anyone know if there are any campgrounds that are close by or lonely roads that are plowed and I wont be in the way.

It is the Wasangeles. All campgrounds closed. No lonely roads. The entrance rises straight up out of a major metro area of 1 million+ people.

Maybe someone will have other beta for you in surrounding areas that involve driving a bit.

You can camp in LCC in the winter, just not in the parking lots. Regulations apply and be aware that there are avalanche concerns and that your vehicle will get plowed in if it snows overnight.

Many of the parking areas have no overnight parking, and some are flat-out no parking October-April-ish, due to aforementioned avalanches. Your best bet is probably the White Pine Trailhead and camping several miles in at White Pine Lake or Red Pine Lake. No official campgrounds will be open.

Lake Blanche from the S-curves in BCC might be another option.

If your goal is to find a campsite to live out of for the winter, you'll be pretty hard pressed to find anything in the area.

Charlie, thanks for the advice! I am only going to be in the area for a week at most and was hoping for a low key place to sleep. Your info is much appreciated.

Just a flip to the question, why LCC? There is so much more skiing around Utah outside of Summit/Salt Lake County where you will find few people and amazing snow.

Some things might also depend on when you come. The Christmas-New Years holiday tends to be pretty intense in the area and you'll be able to get away with way less. If you're talking early December well probably lots you can get away with and snow may not even be on the ground at the mouth of the canyon.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
