Here's a video the Wisconsin Climber's Association put together explaining some of the details of the trad comp, which will now be known as the Altay Classic, in memory of Erol Altay. Thank you very much to the community members that came forward and suggested renaming the competition in his name. It's a great way to honor his legacy and the WCA is happy to play a very small part in that.

NOTE: Link this to the 'cragin classic' event,,or clairify that this is the same trad' comp that is part of the CC event on same date. The Craggin Classic is not mentioned in the article and some climbers may think there are two competing events going on that day...and I am just assuming this is part of the Craggin' Classid event held at Green Valley that same weekend.. Just asking, saying it would help to know this and link it. There was a Devils Lake centennial climbing classic event going for a couple years in past,,,,and I'm thinking the Craggin' Classic that began last year is the new annual replacement for that event, and not another competing fall event.
Hey, I'm clueless, just hope there are not too many others out there who also might be the same. Thanks for the post..it sounds like a great way to honor his legacy.

My understanding, The Trad comp is a WCA event held in partnership with the AAC classic that same day in and in the same place and to be apart of the same party! The Centennial event was a UW Hoofers event that just fizzled over the years due to various reasons.

Forgot Hoofers did the Centennial Challenge,I guess I lumped them in with WCA in my mind. And with the 'centennial' long past, it was a bit of a stretch to repeat that event more than the 2 or 3 years it was held under that title. Glad to see this comp given a name to honor a well respected climber from the WCA. Hope they get a good turnout.

Just found out that you are naming this event in honor of my dad.

Terri and I are utterly speechless, tears of joy...

My father's love for DL, the community, the history and landscape was completely without expectation, a true and deep love that he expressed to me over the course of my whole life, ever since I learned to climb at the lake with him as a (probably much too small) child. I'm certain he'd not believe this himself. He'd be extremely humbled and honored, as we are.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Camille, this is the first time I've really had a chance to write back to you but thank you so much for coming on here and replying! I'm so happy that members of our community came to us with this suggestion and it was the very least we could do to honor your father.

Thank you again and my deepest condolences to both you and your mother.

Rule clarification: are all climbs in the Balanced Rock area in for the comp, or does the climb have to be East of Balanced Rock proper?

Hey msmanski, yes, all of the climbs in the Balanced Rock area are included. I don't have a copy in front of me, but in the 3rd edition of the Devil's Lake climbers guide anything listed under that area is included.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you there!
