Hi, 3 of us who have never been will be coming out to Colorado in early October for a week to do some camping & rock climbing. We'd like to do 4 days of Sport & 2 days of Trad or so. For Sport we'd like to climb 5.8-5.11d. For Trad we'd like to climb 5.6-5.9 (multi-pitch).

What areas do you suggest for both climbing and camping given the above specifics?

Thanks for any recommendations!

Camping and climbing right off the road. Great sport and great trad. Eleven mile canyon.

Thank you for the replies.

Is it possible to climb in Boulder/Golden area in early/mid October? I'm curious why those areas weren't suggested.

Also, we'd be looking for campgrounds that have toilets (and preferably a shower for the girlfriend).

Thanks, Justin

Weather is usually good that time of year. It may snow, but that shouldn't stop you for more than a day or two max.

There is plenty of climbing near the Front Range. However, it also comes with more traffic and crowds, and camping is not very convenient to Boulder/Golden. If you have never been to Colorado, I'm sure you'll enjoy the climbing wherever you go.

I think there is a KOA near Boulder somewhere. Maybe look into airbnb as well.

Camping in Boulder is best in someone's backyard.

Boulder has some absolutely amazing climbing, specifically Eldorado Canyon for trad, but the camping in the area is beyond limited. For easier multipitch trad climbing in the Splatte, check out Turkey rocks, Sheeps Nose or the Cathedral Spires. If you can somehow swing it, Eldorado Canyon is definitely worth at least 1 day....

Shelf Road is a fantastic sport climbing area but so is Devils Head. Both have convenient campgrounds right next to them, no showers though, and both have enough classic routes to keep you entertained for months.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
