Vedauwoo Camping question

Thinking about heading up from Colorado Springs tomorrow night after work. Never been to the area before.

What are my odds of finding a camp site for a 21ft RV?

If not are the chances better for a tent or sleeping in my Pilot?

A quick Internet search leads me to believe its all first come first come first serve. Thats why I ask because we wouldn't be getting in till around 10pm.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Should be some decent free of charge spots out on the way to the spectreman area; of course that puts you a ways off from the main parts of the voo.

There is a road marked 700e that will handle Rvs. Tent camping is fine too. 700e is still pretty close to the Nautilus. Get there early though if you want a spot big enough for the rv. Like well before 3pm. TAKE TAPE!

oh and if you are not used to climbing there add 2 to every grade and you should be good.

^^ This. Arriving at 10 pm will be very tough. Keep driving for a WHLE on that road (700e) and you *might* find a spot for a big rig that has adequate ground clearance. A tent would be FAR more versatile on a summer weekend.. I really am not too familiar with the pay camping so maybe you'll get lucky with an RV?

Ive never climbed there but I am a glutton for punishment. Ive stocked up on tape and wheaties in preparation.

Great advice from everyone, one thing I always pack is an extra trash bag or two, lots party refuse from idiots. Nothing bums you out like setting up camp in the dark only to wake in the morning and see condoms and tampon applicators all around. Maybe it's from all the RV campers ;) Enjoy getting shredded on the beautiful rock!

OP.... the Voo is a beautiful place... what's wrong with saving a bunch of bucks in fuel and going "old school" in the car and pitching a tent? Didn't mean to offend you, but since you asked... no I don't consider sleeping in an RV under a roof with TV and video games and generators to be camping. I consider camping to be, well... outside. And my interpretation has nothing to do with the fact that I now live in Boulder. I grew up, like my moniker suggests, in New Hampshire, and
Vermont. And p.s., the last few times I've gone up, even in a car it's been tough to find a spot after 8:00 pm on a friday

The last time I was in an RV it was pouring outside. I ate a ribeye steak, took a shower, and watched a movie. I distinctly remember thinking how much better it was than camping.

If 21 ft campers = camping, then I totally free'd all those C1 cam-pulls. fuck yes, the neighb'hood gone to hell and I totally crush .11 Veed wide.

I'm not knocking it at all! They're actually rather nice, especially in bad weather. I just don't delude myself into thinking that I'm camping in an RV.

I suppose I don't really like camping. I haven't pitched a tent in years. I prefer the luxury of the back of my Pilot. The RV isnt mine but when I borrow it I enjoy it.

I camp out of necessity or pragmatics. I'd have stayed in the Ahwahnee on my Yosemite trips if I could have afforded it. For several decades post-college, my "camping" was in the back of my pickup.

Even with tents, given my 62 yr old knees and my wife's new knees, we've had to go to one large/high enough to walk in instead of crawl/kneel. Alas it looks like cots are in our future as well.
