I was thinking about going to Looking Glass in a couple of weekends (aug 27-28). I would like to tick some of the moderate classics on the nose wall or south side, but I'm worried about the sun. So, how bad is it? Do people climb there in the summer? If I get up early, can I beat the sun? I know it will be humid, and I'm not worried about heat overall, but I don't want to get totally roasted by the sun
Also, the weather is calling for a good deal of rain. If it rains the day before, will anything be good to go?
It'll likely be hot, but not unbearably so. I recommend climbing in the morning to beat the heat, as well as the afternoon rain showers that seem to be a daily occurence this summer. Have fun!
The sun comes onto the nose around 11-12, the south side slightly earlier. The nose dries faster than most places, so it will be decent even if it has rained. The north side has a couple of 8s and 9s and goes into the shade around 2-3. People climb on all the faces in the summer, but I would still avoid the south side.

Stone Depot has some longer climbs that are similar to the nose, and I believe this area stays shaded longer. The hike is a little longer, but the views of Looking Glass more than make up for it.
