Bugaboos, free camping?

Anyone have details on where to camp for free in the Bugs? I know it's restricted in the Kain Basin but it's not obvious to me where the boundary is... For example, can I camp on the glacier on the other side of the BS col?

I plan to utilize the east creek bivy for the howser towers, but I'd also like to do some camping on Bugaboo/Snowpatch/Crescent.

I know the established site is nice, but at $10 CAD for the night ($20, including my partner) this exceeds my dirtbag budget, unless I'm not going to be eating food. Anyone know the good spots?

There is no free camping in the Bugaboos. If 10 bucks breaks your budget, then go straight to East Creek. Or climb in the Valhallas.

Ten dollars is too much? George Thorogood has something to say to you:

Haha. yes $10 is cheap. Found this picture at the trailhead that clarifies it. Only other option not mentioned is over by Cobalt Lake.

They are increasing fees to 25 dollars weekdays/40 dollars weekends.

Really? When? I'm down for a few days to sit out the current weather then heading back in. The campsite was quite overrun with climbers last week.

That would be a troll. But I've just got back from a Bugaboos trip after a 20-year absence and it was surprising how busy it was. Maybe everyone's trying to get there early in the season before the Bugaboo-Snowpatch col melts out?

Or maybe US climbers are heading there because CAD 10 is only USD 7.70.

It's a busy area so $10 per day pays to helicopter your poop off the glacier so everyone else up there isn't walking through it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
