Climbing in Equatorial Guinea

I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on anything climbing related in Equatorial Guinea, Africa, specifically Bioko Island. I'm heading there for 5 months on a research expedition, and it looks like a rad place to climb in the downtime, with plenty of cliffs, crags, and mountains from what I can gather from pictures. I can't find any information on crags, established routes or recorded ascents anywhere, so just seeing if anyone has some input.

I've been to a lot of similar places and it looks like classic volcanic island rock - dubious with the exception of a few odd pillars and extrusion crags. Maybe some bouldering here and there. Probably some good diving though. What are you going to be researching?

Thanks for the input, I've never climbed in volcanic areas like this before so wasn't sure what to expect but definitely wanting to give it a go if I can.

We're going to be studying the impact of a recently built road on Drill monkeys and bush hunting, and then also Leather Back Sea turtle nesting sites. I think there's a few other projects mixed in there too with a few different organizations we are working with, but not real sure yet

Might be interesting to study if any bushmeat hunting is going on and its impact if so...

Surfing, from the look of it is the way to go or learn if you don't know how...

Let us know on this page how it's going, would be really curious in terms of both your work and recreation - or throw up a link to a blog or something. Curious minds...

It's a pretty impacted area, even prior to the road. Most likely its completion only expedited things in a not so great way...

Will do! Hoping to have at least a handful of stories and experiences to share from the island. Definitely won't be boring. I'll probably be posting most stuff to my photography website briandennisphotos.com when ever I get access to the internet

Nice stuff, looking forward to it - enjoy!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
