Does anybody have experience with insurance that covers gear theft? I'm hoping for $5000 - $10000 coverage for a month in Canada. Gear will be stored in a van.

I'm set on medical insurance.

Check with your homeowners or renters insurance company.

+1 Marc801, I would add to make sure you lay out and photograph or video everything. I know with my insurance company I can store the photos on their website in my profile, which you would want to have done before going on the trip. Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply!
What insurance company are you with? Are you confident that it includes international travel?

I use USAA which has really really good policies on this kind of stuff, I'm not sure about other companies.

We're with Allied Insurance with combined home and auto. Our homeowner's policy includes coverage for theft of items from our vehicles, and is good in Canada. Dunno about Mexico.

A follow up post to what I found in case anyone else is searching for an answer.

It is $15/month for GEICO renter's inurance. After talking to a rep, this includes insurance on personal effects in a van, up to $10000 coverage.

Contract : " we cover personal property owned or used bought and insured while it is anywhere in the word." Personal property section, GEICO renters insurance.

So this means your partner's gear and any borrowed gear.

Hopefully I won't ever have to file a claim. But if I do, I'll do another follow-up. Cheers

While I don't have any need for this info, I appreciate you following up with your answer!

It's important to understand how much the deductible is, too.
