This is almost exactly the route I took. I wanted to hike back down the main trail to save time. Once I reached the top of the west slabs, down climbing into the gulley to get to the main summit was pretty sketch.
I summited the main peak and moved quickly back to the car. I didn't arrive to begin my climb until 3pm so I wanted to make it back to the car before 10 pm for sure.

When we did this in 2004 we stayed much more on the ridge crest, and (if anything) were on the right side (in this photo the opposite side of the blue line). It involved some technical climbing, I'd guess 5.4 to 5.6 and there were at least 2 or 3 "ups and downs". It took a lot longer than we thought.

Looks like you found an easier way.
