Anybody recognize this cam?

I'm just getting into trad and picked this up for a few bucks... Figure it could be fun to learn placements with, but I can't find any other cam like it, so would inspire more confidence if I know what it is. It's the same size/color as red camelot, but it doesn't look like any other camelot I've seen out there.

Looks like a first generation wild country tech friend.

Yes! I lost that while soloing the Nekkid Age! Please return it to me for good karma and a can of warm Coors Light. Thanks!

That looks like a Hugh Banner(HB) Flexi fix cam. Pretty sure of it.Either it's an early generation, or someone cut the plastic sleeve off the stem.

The housing for the cable looks way different than any of the old friends I've seen. The old ones I've seen have a different structure and this looks like the housing was clamped onto the cable. Also, the trigger looks a bit different... Regardless maybe that's the answer!

Close up

Mike,

I can't tell if you're being serious? I actually bought this at a store so I can't confirm the climb, can you tell me the one super obvious modification I did to this?

QMan you nailed it! Thanks!

one thing to note is that all those cams are more or less copies of the wild country flexible friends ... the trango flex cams are still more or less the same design but with a thumb loop and a bit of plastic covering

namely the single axles single cable with the long loose trigger and long head metal head sheath

the long metal head sheath also makes inspection pretty critical where it joins the wire ... theres been cases where it gets worn over years and snaps ...

Well heck Mac D, if you really don't want that can of hetty brewski you might as well keep it. Just remember, instant karma's gonna get you...

Bearbreeder,

Awesome resource with that link, thanks!

I feel better knowing what this is, and that the manufacturer has a reputation. It looks very similar to the wild country but the way it's actually machined looks quiet different and made me wonder if there was something I should know about.

Easy to tell the HBs: unique "sculpted" trigger bar, and (I hated this) the "thumb knob" is 90* off of what it should be. When your hands are on the trigger bar, the thumb hits the sling rather than resting on the metal at the end of the stem. Grrr.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
