I used to live on the east side, and I've seen that amazing looking mountain in the distance to the south as I drive into Zion from Hurricane. The only somewhat useful thing was this link to summit post:
But the few minutes of googling that I have done have not told me much more regarding if climbing is allowed, or if there is anything established. Any of you current or long time locals know what the deal is on that beautiful piece of rock?
I have been told that a local guide company does some big wall courses out there and some of the locals definitely have put routes up there. Access is tough though and there are no well-kept trails out there that I knew of when I lived down there.
The wilderness study area is accessed from the south and there are some climbs along the southern edge (one of which was featured in Alpinist a few issues back). I've hiked up the canyons back there and it is certainly enjoyable, otherworldly, and empty. The northside, I imagine, is even more so.
Google earth says its almost 8 miles and looks like any normal subaru or similar type car could get out there. Also there seems to be a house way out there.
I know its a huge long shot, but does anybody know these folks. Also does anyone know if there are gates between rockville and where this road ends?
And some pictures of the wall. Google earth says its about 7300ft at the top and about 6200ft at the bottom, so seems like potential for 1000 foot wall...
