Has anyone heard any whispers through the grapevine about a general timeframe for if/when an ultralight C4 #5 and #6 would be released? I'm in the market but if it's within the next year or so I'd rather wait for the lighter model.

I remember seeing a video where they said that a vast majority of the weight savings are NOT in the metal but in the stem and stuff, which means the percent weight savings for the 5 and 6 aren't worth developing an ultralight version

When I spoke the guys at the BD tent at the RRR last month they said that BD has no immediate intentions to create an UL 5 and 6.

Their is not a plan to release the 5 or 6 anytime in 2016. After that, I am not 100% certain (of anything in life) but they wont be coming out in the near future after 2016 either.

Well, cool, thanks guys. Guess an ol' ultraheavy #5 will have to fit the bill for now. I wonder what the reasons are for not introducing an UL #5 and #6? I'm curious as a person involved in the making things industries.

To save weight I went with a #5 Friend. A bit lighter, but not as much range with the single axle. #5 Friend weighs 339 grams. #5 BD Camalot weighs 380 grams.

ROI. They don't sell enough of the "ultraheavy" 5&6 to make all new tooling for the Ultralights in the same size.

The #6 Friend is also lighter, albeit by a smaller margin around 24grams. However, the width of the Friend is more proportional. The #6 Camalot feels too narrow in comparison. The Friend is the nicer cam.

Hm, thanks for the tip on WC. I'll consider it, was defaulting to BD because I can get a good deal on them, but I can get a deal on WC as well. I haven't handled the Tech Friends yet in person though (only the Helium Friends).
