Warning Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures ***** RAIN AND WET ROCK ***** The sandstone in Zion is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN ZION during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby. Description Suggest change

If you've seen images of this area, you need to hike in and climb here. It is one of the coolest desert sport areas I've been to. Most of the holds are big and none of the moves are hard, but it's fairly overhanging. By the end, you're getting pumped.

This wall is very shady and a great way to escape the heat. This also means it takes longer to dry out after rains than many nearby areas, and the huecos on these routes are comparatively fragile. Please, PLEASE resist the temptation to climb if there's any doubt about the wetness of the rock.

Getting down from all of these routes is a little tricky since the routes are very steep (~15-25 degrees overhung). A 70m rope will just barely work on all the routes except for Huecos Rancheros, which requires an 80m.

Getting There Suggest change

Park in the lot at the hairpin turn. Hike up the trail (South Fork Canyon) for about 45 minutes. Then canyon will narrow the farther you go. Just before scrambling is required, on your right will be an overhanging wall with several sport routes. These are all beautiful lines.
