Does anybody know if access is open to Lions Den for bouldering outside of Buttonrock res? I know its been a while since the flooding but I couldn't find anything stating that it has been reopened anywhere.

I hiked up there the winter of 2015. The trail is gone. I didn't make it up to the bouldering, so I can't speak to the condition of that. But with snow on the ground it was to much of pia to continue all the way.

I didn't see any posting/signage anywhere that said it was closed. It is kind of a mess/lots of damage, though.

Well sad to hear but thank you very much for the response.

I hiked all the way up there a few months ago. It was hard to locate with the trail being gone. I didn't see signage, but had the feeling that is could be closed. We climbed without incident, however, it would be prudent to get some official information from the Forest Service or Open Space, whoever is the land manager there.

I go to the Lions Den all the time to boulder. The trail is definitely open although it is difficult to find due to the flood damage. Following the directions in Gillett's book I just head up the hill. About 150 feet up the hill the normal trail becomes apparent and is in good condition from there to the boulders.

Isn't there a (longer) back way in from SSV too?

Yes via Hall Ranch trail system. The Colorado Atlas of topos describes the closet area as "Antelope Park".

meant closest.
