Luke Mehall, publisher of The Climbing Zine is set to release his memoir, American Climber, about a life saved by climbing, and the dirtbag culture that helped him see through some dark times. He just launched a Kickstarter campaign, with affordable rewards, and a video explaining the project. Here's some more details.

American Climber is my third book, my first true "fell length" book, a memoir. In short this book tells the story of how climbing, and the community saved my life. I'll be honest, if this wasn't the absolute truth, it would feel incredibly cliche to write, but it is, I needed saving, and climbing and the doors it opens gave me reason to live when I was hopeless, lost, and suicidal. While it starts in a dark place, the book does go towards the light, and then it goes to the high cliffs of The United States and Mexico.

I've undertaken many writing projects before. (I'm also the publisher of The Climbing Zine, and we've done eight volumes.) But, I've never done a Kickstarter. I've never minded funding my publishing with side gigs, and I'm inherently reluctant to ask for anything before I've produced the work. However, this book is a self-published one, I am a one-man show of an operation, and my scope to promote this book is limited. After pitching to the traditional publishing industry and getting quickly jaded with the experience, I decided I would do this thing myself, and just hire a PR agency to promote the book. Luckily, I quickly got acquainted with PR By The Book, who handles many climbing related titles, including many from Patagonia Books, a perfect fit. Most of the funds I raise will go to hiring this agency, the rest will go to printing costs.

I also tried to offer super good deals for contributing, and a low price to get involved.

Thanks for supporting, and bringing this book to a larger audience, I know deep down in my heart the project deserves to be brought to as many people as possible, especially the young and old rebels of the world.

What's a "fell length" book? Is that a climbing reference?
