Great photo of the descent. I've been up there 3 times and have yet to take the gully down. I think I'll stick with the Cat & the Hat descent although this too has its drawbacks.
  • Scramble down climbers left down a gully to a 40m rappel (35 w/ suffice w/ some minor down scrambling)
  • Follow the ducks/carins SE until you reach another (optional) rappel down 4th/low 5th class terrain.
  • With sharp eyes or familiarity with the top of CitH you will spot the rappel anchors for Cat...
  • You may have to wait for the many late parties finishing up Cat in the Hat
  • Even when encountering and waiting for these parties I've made summit to car in 2hours, 15 minutes each time. Not bad, but many more rappels and you'll need a 70m.

A satellite view of the descent according to Handren guidebook. Took us 3 hours summit to car, but only required one rappel at the very end. Budget 1 - 1.5 hrs of sunglight to find the gully (after crossing the saddle) after which a headlamp descent is OK.
