Summer car living/camping in Maine

So I am considering living in Maine for the summer this year. I wouldn't be making much money and wouldn't even be using a room much if I were to rent anyways. So Im potentially looking to live out of my truck and/or find some campgrounds to reside for about the 3 months of being there and I have no familiarity with this area whatsoever.

I figure climbers might have best insight to this, specifically looking to be anywhere in the area from Orono/Bangor to Acadia NP. Anyone have any insight or opinions from personal experience of how do-able it would be in these areas? Any bit of help or info would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers,
Ryan

Maine is a lot more humid and has plenty of rainy days, so you may want to have a cap and good sleeping platform for your truck, both to store gear in a weather safe area, and to spend some nights when it's going to be raining for days.

Great, thanks for the response! I've got a topper and platform for the bed of my truck. Might you have any suggestions for specific areas in which to park it or know if people doing this sort of thing get any trouble about it?

There used to be free camping at Eagle's Bluff in Clifton near Bangor.
You'd drive 50 feet from the road to a small opening. No amenities.

Enjoy the blackflies. It's not really camping in Maine if there aren't blackflies.

Free car camping on MDI is pretty bleak. Find a quite street and keep a low profile, there are parking lots by the YMCA but pretty obvious to law enforcement that your camping...

There's always the Wal Mart in Ellsworth! Plus loads of places on the west side of the island.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
