Dudes shoes were in the leash radius!! Now let me guess.. Dude shouldn't have left his gear all over the place? Plan for biting dogs next time you climb at the Trapps.

How's about:

Who gives a fuck? Leave the dog home.

Bringing a dog to a crag is not disrespectful/inconsiderate. Not managing the dog properly is a problem though. There's lots of problems at the crag. Little perspective here.

It most certainly keeps the MP forum interesting!

Here's my little problem child. Feel free to cut him or bash in his face with your foot.

If only every dog and their owner at the Trapps were well behaved. If only every visitor knew how to avoid getting bit

If he bit me, I'd punt him back to New Paltz

Enough with the endless debate about crag dogs. This topic is as polarized as American politics and is about as likely to be resolved as Congress passing a budget on time.

Make no mistake, their is a real problem beginning to infest crags in America. They are plotting against us, they will strike when we sleep. They want to annihlate the entire human race.

We need to start talking about the scourge of Crag Cats, before it's too late.

A seemingly innocent crag cat plots to murder its owner. See the look of terror and dread on his face. He knows he does not have long.

It's even positioned itself at the back of the neck, where it can immobilize its owner with a quick bite to the spinal cord.

I wish my cat was cool enough to chill at the crag with me!

As far as dogs go, someone should always be close enough to manage it. Also, pack out or bury the shit.

I know most people without kids would prefer to never see a baby in public, but deal with it!

My biggest problem with people bringing dogs multipitching. for god sakes if you are gonna leave him tied up at the bottom, why does it always seem to have to be exactly at the base of the route or in the middle of the approach trail at a very precarious spot. Where I have to squeeze around the angry barking mutt while you yell at him to be quiet from 3 pitches up.

I realize some of you assholes will bring your dogs no matter what. At least show some consideration and tie him up somewhere out of the way...

My friend has a dog who's always really well behaved when we're sport climbing. But I do remember a distinct experience of climbing Castleton one summer. Another group went up around the same time as us. They had THREE dogs that they left at the camp, tied up outside, and barking their heads off all morning. No joke, we could still hear them barking when we were almost to the base of Castleton. Probably more annoying than gym rats blasting loud, crappy music at the crag in American Fork. I think I lean toward keeping dogs away from climbing areas.

One place I climb a lot is a river gorge with a narrow pathway along the base of the crag. There isn't room to tie off a dog out of biting reach of other people. I've never been bitten, but I've been subjected to a lot of barking.

Of course, the barking is a little less irritating than a large group of gym climbers, especially ones outside for their first time.

One of my favorite memories of climbing, was the guy running solo laps on Jensens Jaunt at Tahquitz, early spring day after an ice storm. Ice was breaking off and raining down on him, while his dog ran wild and ate human sh*t at the base of the climb.

Those were the days.

I konw the mentioned tan pitbull terrier mix dog, had several instances this summer at the trapps walking by with our 6lb well trained Havanese/poodle mix. That tan dog usually barks non stop and lunges towards us if there is another dog. Should not be at the cliff. Someone needs to have some harsh words with the owner(s) or maybe some words with rangers?

I implore you to bring this cuddly fellow to the crags as often as possible and let him hunt down the murderous felines. I applaud your patriotism and public service!

Vinny Casilio wrote: Cruel is bit of a generalization and overstatement. I leave my pup leashed to a tree with water when im doing no more than 3 pitches. He is usually asleep or getting petted when i get back down. Any longer and he posts up in the truck if im at a crowded spot or if im in the middle of nowhere he just chills unleashed. I always find him sleeping on the empty rope bag when i get down. He is a 10 year old lab and is the calmest nicest soul i have ever encountered. Not all dogs are calm and friendly. Its a case by case basis and any generalization is nonsense, In my opinion

Great point, and besides rabid animals there are just out of control pets like the douchenozzles biting dog, rockfall and of course the random human freak. I used to bring my dog, usually unleashed/untied for this reason. Vinny, imagine how you would feel when some crazy dog comes along and rips your defenseless sweet dog to shreds while you have him tied to a tree and you are 200ft up watching/listening to it. Plus having climbed around rattlesnakes and copperheads a bunch(they love to hide under rocks) I just dont find it cool to bring the dog much anymore.
