Tool head weights

6 years, and I find myself using less blade over time as I do more mixed climbing, and get used to pulling on sketchiness and thin holds. Of course, blade use varies depending on the situation.

The DMM weights sound like the best compromise for your use.

Looks like more than enough pick left over to me. Rough guess would be that 95% of my sticks don't go past 2 inches from the tip.

That being said, I stopped using head weights on my tools a few years ago on my BD fusions. It didn't make enough difference to me on those tools to matter. That being said, I also bought a pair of x-dreams last year, so I can now relegate the fusions to scrappy beater mixed which I wouldn't use weights on anyway, while using the x-dreams for delicate/hard ice.

Same here. I installed Petzl weights on my X Dreams. The weights, over time loosen and drop down covering teeth. At first I was determined to fix this but after thinking it didn't affect anything I left it alone. I've found that as long as you pull straight down on the shaft of the tool you can use tiny holds. I did notice a problem when camming the pick into a crack. Now I leave the weights off and use the Dreams for ice and Fusions for mixed. The BD Fusions need more weight like I had need more weights!
