This photo (and the photo looking down at a belayer on the ledge) is pretty much the way the climb is done today...i.e. belay at the bottom of the tree ledge (more a sandy, rising ramp) and climb the face up to the prominent left-facing corner. However, before the 2(?) bolts were put in on this face the climb usually scrambled up the sandy ramp/ledge for 25-30 ft to the top, then P2 traversed to the right, into the corner. That's how the route description is written.
