The Gargoyle was one of the strongest climbers in So. Cal. throughout the first half of the 1980's, and a couple of his FAs are still test pieces, like the Umma Gumma Direct at Stoney Point (V7) and the "has it been repeated" Mediterranean Sundance (V10)out at Joshua Tree. He lived in Yosemite for months at a time and was tight with all the Stonemasters. Some routes there became his favorites of all time, like Astroman, which he did 14 times, and he got one of the early sends on The Midnight Lightening back when it was the hardest thing around. For over a decade Mike has been taken out of his game by a serious work-related injury. but his routes still beckon those with the strength, skills and courage to try them...go and highball Mr. Freeze (V5) out at Joshua Tree to climb like "da Goyle!"
