How great is the climbing at the Grand Canyon

Next year at the end of February, I will be making a week trip out west from Michigan. I have a few questions. I have never been out west before so I'm looking for insight from fellow climbers.

How is the rock climbing in the grand canyon? Is it worth making an entire week trip to the grand canyon for? and if not anwywhere near the grand canyon, which I definitely need to climb?

Sedona is badass, south of the Grand Canyon.

Not great enough.

It depends on what you're looking for. There is a sport crag located at the South Rim that has about 40 routes or so. The climbing quality is only so-so to perhaps even crappy. It's got a 5 minute approach and a highly scenic backdrop but for most climbers its probably only worth it to do a couple pitches for the novelty. On the other hand, climbing the backcountry temples is an outstanding adventure but certainly not for those that are averse to suffering. Most routes require lengthy, steep off-trail approaches carrying all your water, gear (perhaps bivy gear),etc. The reward is immense for those that put in the effort but you'll understand why most of those climbs only get done a few times a year (if any).

There is LOTS of high quality climbing nearby though.

Visit the Grand to destroy your vocabulary of words synonymous with "big." Great place, but leave your climbing gear in camp.

Climbing in the ditch is not for everyone.
It's typically much more about the journey than the pitches (Flex nailed it)
There are a handful of excellent rock routes but each one will test you just getting there. If you enjoy 5.6/5.7 with loose rock, death falls and a 50-60 lb pack then the Canyon is for you. That's what often happens on the approaches.

If you've never even hiked the Grand, then it's not where you probably want to get your first taste of Coke and Supai... Try Sedona first.

(hey pseudo, just did that other Tritle route, fun times)

Coming right up...
Actually, we knew nothing about the route (couldn't find your book.)
So I'll leave it for others to discover the same joy.

So which of those two is considered Tritle? The nearer and larger one?
I need to find the book... Misplaced on our last trip.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
