What up folks, was looking at going out in the next couple days. Anyone been to the spires lately? What's the snow/ice looks like in the gullies. 2/3 & 3/4. is it worth messing with yet? Or should a guy wait?

Raptor closure usually starts there March 1

Considering the forum this is posted in and the rather generic name, I think it's possible he's referring to a totally different set of Cathedral Spires.

Or he just posted in the wrong place.

Aren't there some common sense closures in the Splatte version now rather than a blanket closure?

There is an initial blanket closure until there is ledge confirmation, then a spot closure is put into place. Usually it means the Cyn Pin and Block Tower remain closed until the end of July while the Dome, Sunshine Wall, and Poe open up. In the past the blanket closure has been in place until sometime in May.

I bet OP is talking about the Spires at Custer SP.

I haven't been in the spires, but i hiked little devils tower last saturday, and there was a lot of visible snow in the gullies. The Gully at the end of little devils tower had 2+ feet in it at spots. I know theres still a lot of snow in the gullies behind the lake too, as i was just up there yesterday. I would probably give it a week, maybe this warm weather will have it melted out by next weekend! Cheers!

PS. Definitely no raptor closures... lol Wrong Cathedral Spires!

I was talking about cathedral spires in Custer State Park, South Dakota. I was up there today and glad to say there is absolutely no snow. Perfect day for it.
