Climbing in Israel this December

Hi!
My 6 year old daughter and I will be in Israel dec 14 -Jan 2.
We have only climbed outdoors only once before (have been climbing inside for several months), but would love to take advantage of the countries beautiful mountains to learn more.
Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction in terms of guides/partners?
We would also love to find some gyms to climb in around Tel Aviv or Lod.
Thank you!

The most popular climbing area in Israel is probably Gita, which is NW of Haifa and a good 3 hr drive from Tel Aviv. The most beautiful and picturesque climbing in Israel (in my opinion) is the Ein Farra (also known as Ein Prat) canyon which is only 20 minutes outside of Jerusalem. I'm not sure which one is better for beginners though. If the weather doesn't cooperate, there is a large, full service climbing gym in Kiryat Ono which is only 15 minutes outside of Tel Aviv.

I have a recommendation for an excellent (and bilingual) guide (Zack Novak, he posts here on MountainProject as well), but I'm almost positive he'll be here in CO on your dates in Israel. I will forward this link to him and see if he can make a recommendation.

Thank you so much!
That would be great if Zack was in Israel. But if he is not maybe he can recommend someone ?
Thank you

There is also Dalton, near the Lebanon border. Some good sport climbing. I spent 6 months in Israel a few years ago. I climbed in Gita, Dalton, and Ein Fara. I dont remember climbing anything easier than 5.9 or 5.10. I'm sure a local guide would have a better idea of more appropriate climbs.

I second Zack Novak, he is a personal friend and great climber.

Thanks for all the recommendationsame guys, I will be in the states this winter, otherwise I would have been thrilled to take you out.

Mara - your best bet is probably to get in touch with Omer Shavit, he is an person and amazing guide and especially great with kids. Speaks English fluently (although he does have a British accent). His email is shavit.omer.gcr at gmail dot com.

I would have to agree with A view that unless you are out there with someone that knows the area REALLY well, it can be very hard to find climbing that is easier than 5.9

Feel free to get in touch if you want some more info or other guide recommendations.

Thanks so much ! I will email Omer . I'm ok with a 5.9 and although my daughter probably won't make it all the way up I'm sure she will have fun trying!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
