Should I go to Squamish?

Please don't reply if you haven't been to Squamish a lot...

So I have 11 days off of work and I am planning on going to Squamish, but after looking at the weather forcast, wunderground.com/cgi-bin/fi… , I am thinking twice. So I live/work at City of Rocks, and I would be willing to go somewhere else other than Squamish if I am just going to get rained out the whole time. Am I just headed into a rainy week, is this normal, or is this not as bad as it looks?

Im wrestling with the same idea right now as well. I might just go to WY. Figure it might be best to sweat in some limestone pockets rather than on a wall.

The temps in Tensleep aren't that bad though...

11 days? Hell ya I'd go to Squamish. Even if you get rain for 4 of those days, 7 days in Squamish is better than 11 days anywhere else:)

Looks like rain Wed AM through Thu AM, and then at least 3-4 good climbing days. Beyond that the weather forecast is unreliable.

From the actual forecast discussion for Bellingham, WA:

Long term...the upper low will shift slowly inland Wednesday night and
Thursday...then moves to western Montana late in the week. The shower threat will shift east with the low and western Washington should have dry weather late in the week through next weekend. It is not yet clear whether much of a

still well in the 570s and it would still likely be mostly sunny
with temperatures in the middle and upper 70s in the interior of western Washington.

go to squish. you will not regret it. the time is now! August is always the best month up there.

Haha.. I've been there a couple times..

Rainy weather is unusual from the end of June to the end of September. I've been there in the summer for three weeks and it's rained twice.

If it does rain, park at the Muirrn Park lot and walk north on the westside of 99. After about 5 minutes you'll see a spot you can climb at in the pouring rain. It's one of coolest features I've come across. Its a giant flake under a huge roof leaning against a wall. Thanks for showing us that spot J L!

We went there even though the forecast showed rain for most of the time. Turns out it didn't rain the whole time. Ironically, it rained most of the time at City of Rocks where we live. It usually doesn't rain that much here... Seems like there would have been places to climb in the rain. Amazing place.

echoing the previous posts that the weather forecast up there is shoddy at best.

Squamish summer rain is rarely very heavy or constant either, usually just grey clouds and drizzle. 70% rain forecasts often make the best climbing days because it's not crowded and not too hot

Yeah, that was us. Fun times, funny people... We are married, but rings and fingerlocks just don't go together. Glad you caught the good weather too.

Just got done with nine days of no rain in Squamish :) six days of climbing and then spent the night at Lake Lovely Water.

I stayed at the Squamish Oasis Hostel. $30 per night and it includes breakfast. Although the hot breakfast is from 830 to 1000. If you leave earlier Ivan has homemade cereal available. He will also cook you dinner for $5 if you ask in the AM. The beds are firm...I was glad I had a camping pad.
