What's funny is that I have been up at the Iris before Memorial Day and seen it bone dry. Its just that even a passing awareness of how much snow fell this winter would tell me that its too muddy to camp up there, and goin' muddin' would just make the Forest Service less friendly to climbers.
Thanks for posting this, Rob!

Right. Like as if Wyoming rednecks never would dream of f*cking the place up. I'm not saying that its not possible that dumb@ss people from CO did that, but I have spent many, many weeks camping on the backside over the last decade plus and hands down the most damage and destruction I have witnessed has been the result of 4-wheelin, dirt bike ridin, burnin everything in sight yee haw rednecks from the great state of Wyoming. Being a dumbass is an international, trans-state affliction and crusty losers from Boulder do not have a corner on the market.

Bummer about the damage though. Perhaps some well-placed dead trees laid across the parking spot will help deter future genius grant recipients from parking there.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the pullout for the campsite before the one below White Buffalo (its been about 2 years since I was last up there, so my memory is a tad hazy). While I've seen a few non-climbers go up to Wild Iris just to camp, they're in the clear minority. Thing is, most locals that I know (knew? judges?) would've avoided the Iris on Memorial Day weekend (which is when this was taken) because of the out-of-state crowds and the heavy snows of last winter.

This is what happens when all of Colorado shows up for a long weekend and makes-up campsites, instead if going elsewhere or using the city park
