Drones in Yosemite

Drone Ban
There goes further unique perspectives of big wall climbs in the park...interesting choice of things to pursue in the park. Park Service Announcement |

Seems like a lot of liberty is being taken in their interpretation of the law. |

Smith Rock banned them recently also, "to protect the nesting raptors and preserve park activities". |

Yeah tHey aren't drones but I don't want some noisy ass quad copter in my NP's |

Good. A few months ago I had the experience of a drone buzzing around uninvited while I was climbing. It was annoying, and I'd rather not have it become more common-place. Do you really want a bunch of drones circling about in Yosemite or anywhere else? |

Already have wildlife harassment in Zion due to drones. |

It looks likes we can still bring an emp up on the wall, so that's cool. |

This is a good decision. It used to take skill to fly an RC aircraft but in recent years anyone with a few hundred bucks can pick one up and start flying it with a remote video screen. They make a really annoying noise. Also imagine a tourist trying to get video of you climbing with an annoying buzzing drone or some annoying climber trying to get video of his friends sending nearby.. |

Sean Nelb wrote:Do you really want a bunch of drones circling about in Yosemite or anywhere else?Frankly no, i'm not the biggest fan of them as they are distracting when on lead - especially when they cash into a tree and fall to the ground (my only exposure to them). I'd rather see enforcement go towards more nuisance things like loud motorcycles for example. I think the valley has become entirely too accessible and every time i go i find my experience lessened slightly by such nuisances. I would say a responsible usage would be a more appropriate approach. |

Never mind the annoying noise, how'd you like to have one crash into you while you're on lead? |

So people can't fly around remote controlled helicopters in a national park ...damn...John Muir must be rolling over in his grave right about now. |

it's fucking retarded that they are handing out 6 months jail and $5000 for flying a drone. Yea, because we really need to be HARD on drone flyers and send them away for a long time since their actions are so severely damaging to society.... 6 months jail for flying a drone, but only 1-2 nights in jail for DUI while driving a 100,000 lb semi truck at 95MPH. Sounds fair.... |

Where I come from, drones are target practice.... |
