New to the forum and somewhat new to climbing in Utah. My wife and I love the boulder field in Nephi. Tons of development potential out their and it's rare to see anyone. Has anyone been out their?

to the best of my knowledge this was the FA, haven't named or listed on here yet though.

I'll check in the bible when I get a chance, it's all the way out in my car...

Where exactly is this area? I'd love to get down there sometime and put up some new problems!

About 15 minutes west of Nephi on hwy 132. If your headed west it will be on the left side of the road. You shouldn't miss it, there are boulders everywhere and much more than you can see from the road. I think there is also a little information on mountain project.

Got out there yesterday and had a great time, its no replacement for Joe's but there are definitely some good problems. Very sharp rock and the bulk of the problems don't have a whole lot of variety, but there's definitely more potential there. Do you happen to know who owns the land there? Any potential access issues?

Mountain dog-I've climbed there a bit and was in awe myself. Tons of potential to be had. Off width boulders a plenty too. I would recommend pm'ing the guys who posted a bulk of the info on this area on MP, certainly before any FA claims. I def climbed some seemingly untouched boulders out there but never claimed any FA due to lack of info.

Jack- if you do find out who owns the land that would be a great find, I would love to know as well.

Send on!

Mountain dog - were you able to start the overhang boulder from a sit start? I found a knee bar on the undercling helped to avoid using the other rock to the right as a foot hold, but this seemed way harder than v4 IMHO.

Definitely no replacement for Joe's. but it's super close and convenient and a good change every know and again. Sorry i don't know who owns the land.

Yes i do the sit start and the knee bar definitely helps so you don't flag that other rock under there. It seems hard until you get the right sequence. From my picture, I match that crimp which takes a lot of core strength, bump right to pocket, transition to left heel where right hand is in the picture, right finger hole where i wiggle my way up to the mantle. Thais how i do it anyway.

MD- I was def using poor beta. On another note it would be cool to find out some more info about this area from Nate Burn. I'd love to see a more comprehensive MP page for the area and singular trails perhaps mark by cairn? Anyway it would be some work.

Agreed on both points, I'd be willing to put in some work to get the area developed a little further if we can get that organized. I just wouldn't want to do anything until we have access nailed down.

This is what I've found.

The property west of Nephi (boulder fields) looks like it is on BLM property.

It is located in Section 29, Township 35, Range 2 West. The field office over this part of Utah is in Fillmore @ 95 East 500 North, 435-743-3100.

Good to hear that we're on public land! As far as the few bolts around the area, does anyone know if permission was obtained for those or if they were just slapped up there?

I know that a long time ago the local scout troops used to rappel out their. now they use the Nebo foot hills. Darren at mountainworks in Orem would probably be a good one to ask. He's quite knowledgeable of the area and has a guide book that never got published for the Nephi boulderfeild.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
