Yep, sounds like you encountered a "Dirtbag."

I'm so sorry, are you ok now? It is big world outside of the gym, some 'climbers' look like the Walking Dead, I know.

Best to aim for the head and run back to the cleanliness of suburbia.

I don't smoke and I don't drink.

.. I've been way more worried about sober dumbasses who lie about their knowledge and ability than someone who gets after it enough to feel confident belaying and climbing while stoned. Usually the stoners are fun to be around too.

That is the smell of broken dreams. There are several types of "Dirtbags" as it was discussed in a few threads before. The original "Hobos" were job seekers who traveled to make money to provide for their families during the great depression. In my travels I have encountered a few variations of the above...ranging from a homeless lady on the beach with a parrot on her shoulder to a retiree four wheeling in a multi million RV. Why do climbers have to be associated with the worst kind of travelers? It's about the name you make for yourself.

I would take a sober boring belayer over a stoned or drunk fun one any time.....

I get that, in fact I'd say that a high percentage of accidents on the rock come from these types.

I don't drink or smoke but don't care if others do. I probably won't tie in with you while you're under the influence though.

rging, choose the right! Which should be easy in SLC. ;D (Just joking with ya buddy!)

People are beating a dead horse here.
Drugs and climbing(climbers) goes way back in time. (In American climbing for sure.)

For good entertainment on this, check out ReelRock8 that is going around now.
The Yosemite Stone(d) Masters section is a great reflection on history.
(And it was not just those Yosemite Masters who were the only culprits by the way…)

Dave, you don't have enough life experiences to understand what I am referring to. You can be old as dirt but glued to tv and your daily routines what you lack is living.

Don't mess with the crack mayor! ;D

Hmm, I like that, crack mayor.. Makes me think of of someone at Indian Creek.
Like a crag commander or something!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
