Do I need axes and/or crampons?

Depends on your comfort level. I was up there on Saturday and only wore approach shoes up the snowfield and through the North Chimney. Generally speaking, at this time of year, no axes or crampons are needed.

As of this past Thursday, August 8, there is no need for ice axe/crampons. There is about 30 feet of dirty snow to reach the start of the left-side slabs in North Chimney. (Do not go up the snow tongue...)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
