Sadly, as of September 7, 2013, very little remains of this once magnificent and unique honeycomb set high on the east face of the Elephant Head.

It must have been a nice spring which induces well established colonies to send off swarms; this helps them control their numbers and ability to not outgrow their current home.

Unfortunately though, most swarms never make it through the following fall as they very often find unprotected places like this to move into (or worse yet, an attic). As soon as there are a couple of cool nights, these guys all die because of all of the exposure and their inability to tolerate the cold.

The magnificent honeycomb that resided above the cave on the east face of the Elephant Head has been destroyed by some thoughtless souls.
