Description Suggest change

The shorter West face of Windy Point.

Windy Point is remarkable in that it is bigger and better than it looks, and windier up on top (giving it an alpine feel)! The rock looks like granite, and is of excellent quality in large sections of the cliff. A single 60m rope descent is possible from the top via The Direct Route. A safe walk-off is possible to the north of the summit down the NW and West side, back to the base (avoid the juniper filler ramp which ends in a cliff, follow cairns further north). Be careful of rattlesnakes on the lower south and west talus slopes (there are at least two dens here).

Getting There Suggest change

The highest point visible from the parking area; best approached from the upper N. Canyon (Frog Pond) trail, a little more than a 10 minute hike. Turn left at a sheep trail just before the entrance to N. Canyon and skirt west under the south face.
