This stem has responded well with some TLC, better than its relatives nearby, but the drought has adversely affected the vegetation around it.

What was a previously abused Opuntia stem became a repeat victim when a sadistic Texas Canyon visitor smashed the stem with a rock and broke the Opuntia in two. Where there was one, now there are two.

Opuntia basilaris stem that was rescued and supported after someone stabbed it with a stick and left it to whither and die. It's looking much better now.
