Of the Formation called "THE CYCLOPS" ,,, I'm glad to see Davito actually repeated my climb [ "CURE FOR SANITY"; aka 'Odyssey' ] ... I was with he and "Pato" on the 2nd ascent of "Cowboy's Delight" when we did the third ascent of Mike Roybal's "THE RAINBOZ" route up the Shield. As an astronomer, I had personally watched two Colorado climbers do what I believe was the 2nd ascent through my telescope from Juan Tabo Canyon. Mike Roybal was/is the greatest influence any of us young hopefuls could have wished for. He was the most humble and perhaps the greatest New Mexico climber of the time... the 1970-s. His only rival to that claim could have been Annie Whitehouse .
As an aside (a BTW),,, I met Annie as I was coming back from a near fatal solo first ascent up the west side of the Prow. It was a climb I did as a twenty-something and I have never claimed it as a route in any guide book.
As I descended the hike down from the Prow and started hiking the road, I passed by a cute young lady that noticed I had my Blue Edelrid PERLON KERNMANTLE rope tucked on my pack. She passed by me and then asked if I had just been climbing. She told me she was 17 years old and had just been on the 1st All Women's Ascent of Annapurna .
Some years later, we would hang out with our other climbing friends and,,,
... my! How Time passes us by :|
David Bowie is dead??? Sir Paul isn't allowed into an after- Grannie-awards party???
What's next??? PLAYBOY will no longer show naked women??? :op
Even Davito and I have a sweet little unreported climb up the East Face of Trundle wall; I suppose it should be named " Lichen or Not" ... we were perhaps the first to sit atop THAT block of rock. Or was it Mike Roybal and Cathy Kocon (Cathy Hicks) on their unreported route up the East Face??? hmmm ... hard to tell in the Sandias. I still have many so-called "first ascents" to report from the 1970-s... and early 1980-s. I'll try to set the records straight before I pass; not for my ego... but for history, and also her/story. Our Dear Sisters have played a huge part in our realization that some things (like climbing) are better than sex...
Did I ever mention I found a pair of panties stuffed behind a small block while I was rapping off Emerald City??? Some events simply should not be told... That's cool; you've heard of the "Mile High Club"... ; Perhaps, I can interest you in the" Smile Wide Club" ???
I'm not even sure I wanna post this but at least MP gives me the way to delete it :o)

I'm wondering if the Paul Johnson you passed was an older guy from Austin, TX?

The Legendary Davito Hammack on the sweet arete during our link up with Slipping Into Darkness. We linked pitches on Odyssey. This allowed us to only rope up on 4 pitches total during the link up; free soloing the rest. We passed Paul Johnson and Benny Abruzzo atop pitch 4 of SID
