Winter Limestone

Okay, so I've caught the limestone bug. Unfortunately for me, this Winter it looks like I'm not going to be traveling outside the continental United States to climb. That also means I cannot go to the obvious answer to my upcoming question, El Potrero Chico.

Within the US, what area(s) do people recommend for Winter climbing, late Dec. early Jan. with awesome limestone and reasonable weather. I'm probably looking to go for 2 weeks or so and I climb 12+/13. My partner climbs 11+/12.

Thanks in advance!

The homestead in Arizona is exactly what you are looking for. Good tufa climbing and rarely is it too cold to climb.

A few options:

Last Chance Canyon, NM
Homestead, AZ
Various Las Vegas area limestone crags (Potosi, Arrow, etc)
VRG
Shelf Road

Some of these are more relaible than others in the winter.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Homestead looks like a sick area. Still need to do my research though.

You could come here to TX. Maybe not worth the travel, but we have plenty of 40 ft single pitch near Austin, we also have some granite slab at Enchanted Rock a little to the West of Austin.

And, of course, we have Hueco Tanks for general climbing.

Cheers,

St George area. You have all the limestone crags there in St George, the VRG, the Mesquite, NV areas 30 min away. So much to do there!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
