Except they got like, what, one album? At least with the Dead you can listen all your life and not hear everything. And if you have someone infatuous around they'll tell you what the audience was doing during the show. And how much coke Jerry had before based on how much he's bouncing during Franklin's Tower.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, David is a master, and that one album is perfect campfire music.

My favourite occasion of this is when a bunch of people brought their guitars along and played various songs, although "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones is the most memorable song played on that particular occasion.

I like to hear people playing instruments around the campfire.

When I'm out on long routes the music I most often listen to at the belays is Wu-Tang Clan and Gang Starr.

For me at least, I won't buy a record unless I can listen to the entire thing. Same for downloading digital stuff for my phone/iPod. I don't listen to just one song at a time. Back in the day you had entire albums that were like works of art (Quadrophenia, The Wall, Sgt Peppers, Highway 61, etc). And it's not just rock. Biggie, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest - those guys knew how to make a RECORD. The rappers today just want to make videos and singles - maybe because my generation's attention span is so short compared to your generation.

Nowadays, with the exception of a few great artists, it feels as if they are making one song at a time instead of one album at a time. I hate that.

Check out Kendrick Lamar. He jsut dropped a new album last week that is a great play, all the way through. It is called good kid, m.A.A.d city. Also check out his mixtape (which is free to download with a simple search) #Section.80 - you won't be disappointed

Nobody mentioned Woody Guthrie or Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Nothing better around the campfire than folk, CERTAIN gospel, and Dust Bowl Era songs. Oh... and they are super simple to play on the Guitar. Pete Seeger helped put together a killer songbook called "rise up singing", for those who like this type of music, check it out.
