Hi guys,

So the weather tomorrow is suppose to be hot hot hot and I don't feel like getting baked out on the crags, so what are best shaded climbs in NH sport or trad?

Also go any suggestions to swimming holes up and down the white mountains?

I've done Stinson Lake, the Pemi, Beaver Brooke by Moosilauke, the water slide area near Lincoln, the old Hatchery w/awesome cliff diving, the cascades in Waterville, and of course, Snake river by Rumney. Any other suggestions?

Sculptured Rocks, Groton NH

For a swimming hole, check out sculptured rocks geologic site. Fun jumping, a nice diagonal finger crack to play on and generally good red neck watching. The rocks are climbing porn grade granite.

from Rumney rocks, drive out to Tenney Mountain Highway (Rt 25), turn right. in a couple of minutes there will be a road on your left called Halls Brook (wicked windy). Turn left here, drive ~3 mi to a T, turn left on North Groton Road. Take this for a couple more miles, down the big hill. A couple of hundred yards after the end of the downhill the road will take a sharp left. Instead, turn right there onto sculptured rocks Rd. ~1mi down this there will be a sign and parking spot on the left, the swimming hole is on the right.

Most climbing areas have shaded cliffs, its just a matter of when you go to them. For example, Cathedral is in the shade after about 1 or 2. Too many to mention, but take a look at Rumney or North conway crags, see which way they face and you should be able to make fairly accurate assumptions about when what cliffs go into the shade.

You could try saco crag. It's in the trees and faces NE plus pretty good swimming right across the street. Small cliff but a few good climbs.

I seem to remember Pawtuckaway having pretty good tree cover. Been a few years since I've been there though. I'm sure you can swim in Round Pond, but non-moving bodies of water weird me out.

Since i don't live in the area anymore area anymore, i will give up the best spots.

Jericho road. the road tat leads to Stairs, 100 yards back from the parking is a sweet 7' deep x 20' wide pool..awesome.

jefferson notch road by Mt Wash... very cold , nice pools that will freeze you good.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
