Generator is ready to go. My wife and i will be in sometime Saturday, early afternoon prolly. Gotta make sure the beer stays cold.

i assume we will be at the main campground ?? not the few sites near the entry.

The county MAY impose a red flag fire ban soon(they should). So make sure to bring a camp stove for cooking.

Please bring it if you can. I'm waiting to hear if we can press Sam Bricker with Outside TV into showing the short about Bob and Penitente...I know he is taking some iteration of it to the Banff FF and for cable so I have to hear what he can do. If not, my van has all the latest Disney Kids flicks, err, well maybe someone can bring a climbing film. You guys rock with all the support...

for what it's worth
I've never been to penitente so I'm not sure of the layout so I'm prepared to expect no facilities. Though bob pointed out there is water and a few other things.

I'll be arriving Friday morning. I have a generator as well to go along with the rest of the sushi set up. 10x10 tent with lights, sushi bar, two stoves, tables, big coolers, etc. etc. - a full kitchen basically.

Mornings we can make breakfast and coffee for everyone (5 gallon stainless pot to go on top of one of those flame thrower stoves for boiling water). I'll have some coffee and will make french toast. I always do this for the folks that paid for sushi but if folks have food to contribute we can just do a big breakfast for every. It's a nice way of getting folks fed and out of camp to climb/work, etc.

I realize most have never seen how I roll (pun intended) but the short of it is at sushifest you essentially need a coffee mug and a chair (and your own beer).

My husband (Jim) and I definitely want in for Sushi - can we get payment to you in advance or how do you usually arrange things? Anything in particular we can bring to contribute to breakfast? Loaves of French bread? Maple syrup?

The campground upgrades at Penitente are fantastic - there are now at least 3 pit toilets (that I know of - 1 near the entrance and 2 at the main parking lot) as well as some bear proof trash receptacles. There is also a covered pavilion with picnic tables at the trailhead.

WOW ! we are going to need more beer !
Is 3 Barrel donating any ??? I was only planning a pony keg of IPA (50.. 120z servings) I might be able to get more...

Erika - I'll count you and Jim in. Just pay me the $30 each when we get there. I've got it covered.

Though usually i do get payment in advance so I'm hoping for the best outcome on this. 20 lbs of fish shipped overnight from hawaii isn't cheap! oh... but is it yummy and fresh!

sweet!

I've got a bottle of Sake if that helps. one bottle. um..... one ;-)

I wanted to give a shout out to all those people that have donated money to Bob in advance. That has been very helpful to secure additional bits, gear, hardware, etc.... Thank you all for your thoughts even though some of you might not be coming, several of you have pitched in. Cheers to all. Names to come...

No problem, I'll bring the whole setup down. People should definately bring some climbing movies just in case, but it sure would be nice to have a private screening type of deal going on!

See you all in a few days!

Can't wait

Taste off! San Luis Brewery and the benevolent John Strand up against the never out done John Bricker and 3 Barrel Brewery of Del Norte. I can't wait and Bob D is coming out of sobrie-tirement but he declared it will only be for an IPA. Looking forward to the party. And what a venue beneath the virgin...

I talked to Bob last night and he sure seemed like he needed a beer or maybe two.

Are you guys doing sushi Friday or Saturday? Trying to make it down there to help out. Just not sure what time I will be able to make it down. I was going to be making a trip for memorial day weekend there, so I figured this might be a way to give back to the area.

Officially sushi is happening Saturday night.

I'm heading down early tomorrow morning and at a minimum I'm eating sushi tomorrow night as well (sushi tent will be set up).

Boxes of fishes arrive shortly.

Looks like 40 % chance of rain. We may be drinking early.

Mike Smyth · · Spartanburg, SC · Joined Jun 2011 · Points: 70

Yeah, I saw the weather forecast the other day, but it looks like less of a chance of rain there than in the springs, so it looks like I'm going to try and get down there. Is there still going to be a camping fee for us for the weekend or is it being waived for the volunteers? Does anyone know? Is there anything we need to bring tool wise to help out? I've never done something like this so it will be fun to help and learn this weekend. Thanks

john strand · · southern colo · Joined May 2008 · Points: 1,640

I'm almost positive the fee is being waived for volunteers. A hammer, pry bar, blow tube and maybe some old rope.

Mike Smyth · · Spartanburg, SC · Joined Jun 2011 · Points: 70

What would you recommend for pry bar and blow tube? I could stop by the hardware store today and pick some stuff up maybe. I think i have a 3 pound sledge laying around somewhere. No problem for a rope

Mike Smyth · · Spartanburg, SC · Joined Jun 2011 · Points: 70

More specifically asking for do you go with a flat pry bar or a round wrecking bar?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
