Does anyone have anymore information on this? Was he working on a problem or just climbing around? It would be interesting to see if a well known boulder just moved.

So if he was trapped would that really make him a "free" climber? Or would it be a trapped climber goes free?

Either way, I couldn't even begin to think of what boulder that could have been.

Ha! Yes, the Daily Camera although being in a very climbing-centric town, doesn't seem to be good with the climbing lingo.

hmmm...wonder where that is near. Anyone recognize that boulder?

Looks like that must have hurt pretty good.

The rescue teams were staging out of the parking lot at the turnoff to the amphitheater and heading north of the road. I think the gate was still closed, but I imagine search and rescue could have opened it if necessary. I'm not sure what bouldering is 1/2 mile from that parking lot.

So, lets see it. Who else boulders with a helmet on?

rescuers provide a helmet for the extrication, and sometimes a martini.

Yes, SAR will usually, if not always, provide a helmet. Seriously!? That's your criticism?

That looks like it hurt like hell and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'm glad he(she?) survived and won't loose the leg. Yikes. The picture really drives it home. =(

Wow, that is a big rock to fall. The chap is seriously lucky this didn't land on him any worse than that.

Thanks for the RMRG posting w/ additional info.
